J-K Assembly results triumph the spirit of democracy. Discuss

TimePosted by IBNLive at 01:51 PM, Dec 28, 2008 in Elections

With a 61 per cent turnout in the Assembly elections and a hung Assembly in the offing, the Jammu and Kashmir poll results go on to prove that the Indian electorate is completely unpredictable. The results in the state, which went to the polls in seven phases, also prove that the spirit of democracy has triumphed after all in the state, irrespective of whoever comes to power. Discuss

obviously it is great triumph the sprit of democracy irrespactive of power . But people who are going to take over power should not take this sprit for granted. I should not be taken against seperatist. Goverment of J & K and Govt of India should work togeather to make people really feel triumph for coming out and vote .
Congrats to people of Jammu & Kashmir .
It will be more triumph the sprit of democracy if seperatist take part in coming general elections.

The people of Kashmir gave a fitting reply to the hostile neighbour affirming their belief and firm conviction about the democratic way of governing themselves.Hats off to them for their spirit of bravery and defiance of the anti-democratic elements.

Yes, This is a triumph of Indian Democracy and its great people. The people of Jammu&Kashmir have shown real courage and character in exhibiting their beleif and commitment to the country contrary to the image that parties like the BJP paint about them. BJP should seriously introspect their "Religious agenda". The people of India have identified them and their real designs. Time is over for devisive politics. We Indians want better living and we want results. POLITICIANS CAN NO MORE DEVIDE US TO MAKE THEIR LIVING.
This is an opportunity for Omar to bring back the state to normalcy . Focus on development. Kashmir can earn handsomely on tourism if only the security and infrastructure is improved.Omar, you are a forward thinking Indian. Go ahead and prove. The entire country will support you.

The whole country should salute the people of J&K for their wonderful expression of being part of the country's democratic processes.
It is clear that the militants are controlled by Pakistan. Under pressure since 26/11 for their misadventure, the Pak establishment has obviously advised the militants to not pull the trigger. Unless the terrorists are eliminated and the rogue country brought to its kneels, there is no guarantee that the next election would be peaceful.

Indeed a victory of democracy. I salute the people of J&K for 61% turnout I request all politicians be unity and fulfill the basic requirement of the people who elected them and create more jobs, business opportunity to grow the state.

I wish to see the J&K as normal states like other states in india.

I do not think that the 61% polling in J&K is a victory of democracy.Indian electrorate is driven by religious sentiments. They do not look beyond religious cleavage.Look at Jammu. The Amarnath land issue and the vipping up of passions has created havoc.Even in this scientific era our people are moved by illogical religious sentiments and politicians thrive upon this.Religious fundamentalism is going to affect our lives in future more than ever.
Democracy in India cannot be called democracy. This only brute power in the hands of politicians who hold the entire country hosatge and grab peoples wealth. Our people must rise up and open their eyes.Do the lives of poor people have any value when 1/3rd of the nation go to bed with one meal a day!
When elections are held under gun tottering men can we call it a democracy?

It is indeed a victory for democracy, since the electorate came out to vote despite the fear of the militant's gun and the boycott call from the separatists. It has helped in showing the world at large and our neighbors in particular that the majority of Kashmiris do believe in the democratic process of elections conducted by the sovereign state of India. We now have a better voice and more credibility in international forums, when we talk about Kashmir being an integral part of India.

Indeed a victory of democracy. It is a proof once again that democracy is the modern and most viable form of governance. Military rule as has been openly or secretly active in Pak is a detrimental issue for the region. I hope the people of Pak realize it. National conference emerging as the leading party is a good sign for India. There might be still hope of reconciliation. But the large number of seats for PDP and BJP is definitely a worrying sign. PDP has contested almost on a separatist agenda. The fact that they are growing in the valley is definitely not good for the nation. As far as BJP are concerned, while their growth being a national party should be a good sign, the fact that they carried their communal agenda into the most volatile state in India makes it dangerous. I hope that this will be a temporary phenomenon and not a permanent polarization. BJP should stop such cheap tactics which will cost the country a lot in the long run.

the real issue in the sate elections were, sadak, pani, naukari
and better future for kashmiri, he is like any other human being, he is fedup with the separatist movements, they are keen to make kashmir a developing state, with development of the state. the separatist will have to change and join the main stream and help the kashmiries in a democratically. Omar Abdulah deserves to be congratulated for voicing the issues of kashmiries in paliament, which chnaged his fate. adil mohd.

Elections do not mark the success of democracy - development and a responsive administration do. Unfortunately this has not always happened in J&K. Let's hope that the NC and the other parties can work together and hear what people really want.
