Should there be capital punishment for ragging?

Should there be capital punishment for ragging? | Read Story

TimePosted by IBNLive at 09:28 AM, Mar 10, 2009 | Updated at 12:46 PM, Jul 23, 2009 in India

The Medical Council of India has recommended that ragging is a heinous crime and must be punished severely. The Government doesn't seem to be entirely convinced though. Studies have shown that more serious ragging offences are reported from medical colleges. The MCI, the country's regulatory body for medical education, has therefore suggested that ragging be made a cognizable offence at par with rape, atrocities against women and ill treatment of persons belonging to Scheduled Castes and Tribes. Although some states have banned ragging in campuses, there is yet to be a complete ban on ragging. Is capital punishment the only way to deal with such offenders?

Those who involved in this will be punished on the center of the road.

Luckily, we are Indians.
Unluckily, we are adopting some customs from the other culture.
It is very well known to me, such things had not happened with me.
It is time to leave something which are not suiting us.
It is time to adpot something which our society needs.

I think our society needs to be more senstive.

All the Students accused should be prisoned for the rest of their remaming lives.
The Principal of such a shady college should be held responsible for the act & should be asked to manage a herd of Cattles rather than students of a college.

Imposing of Capital Punishment is the only way to deal with such offenders. Otherwise, in the future, this type of accidents will occur again and again. In this particular case, the seniors have beaten the student till death. Therefore, Death penalty should be given to the offenders.

Blame the Management of the college.
By putting No ragging boards in campus doesnt mean the job of Management is over.
If now nothing is done then in future too it will be the same.
What punishment needs to be given is not the question, we need to ensure it does not repeat again.

Crimes in School and Colleges or any other institution should be viewed seriously and Central Government and the state Government should act together and chalk out programmes whereby students are repeatedly briefed and an hour a week is allocated for class on crime, about danger of growing up, changes in the world, society, gender differences, respect to elders and teachers, all this matters as different children who grow up in different environment who may have seen lot of domestic violence and been leading very ab normal life with their parents or maternal and paternal uncle, grand parents, so their is a necessity to psycological clean their thinking and bring them to a correct path.

Crime of every kind from the youth is increasing, be it cyber crimes, or MMS and other porno and sexual related crimes, so inorder to reduce or atleast take control it is essential to tame them when they are young.

The students are guilty of murder and they should be punished as per the law, and it should be fast.

I want to tell everyone that all ragging is not murder, all ragging is not harmful. I have ragged and have been ragged at college.

In my opinion, ragging is a necessary part of hostel life, but surely a line must be drawn. In most cases it is not possible to actully implement the line and so it is better to stop ragging on the whole.

The seniors should understand, but the justification they give is"no one stopped our seniors from ragging us".

There is a need to take steps to counter this problem. Steps which are implementable, without affecting senior junior interactions.

Easy thing to do and which will get done is to punish the students who committed the crime. Important thing is: Parents send students to live in Hostels trusting Wardens and establishment will do their job of basic supervision. It is essential to pin down all those who must have known the prevailing law and order mess by students and who have allowed the situation to get to this point! Really justice will be very incomplete minus this. We expect the criminal kids to be sons of some people in Power! Their names ought to be published as well.

What do you mean by BAN??? it does not make any sense until the culprits are caught and punished under the law. How a group of college students who are begging for pocket money from parents get such guts to do ragging. It is because of loopholes in the system and so called BAN.
The guys who are involved in ragging should immediately be sent out of college and admission should not be allowed in other colleges also. Will we be able to bring such rules???. This is only a debatable subject, but cant be answered in democratice country like ours
