Throwing shoes at politicians: Right way to protest?

Throwing shoes at politicians: Right way to protest?

TimePosted by IBNLive at 01:36 PM, Apr 10, 2009 in IBNPolitics

Throwing shoes at politicians seems to have become the easiest language of protest in this country.

Current Rating:

this is definitely an uncivilized and highly cheap manner of protesting in a democratic, civilized set up. there are of course many other ways of showing one's dissent but at least not by throwing shoes to a honored man like our Home Minister.

Please also enlighten us with atleast one of these other 'civilised' ways of protest?

I am not sure if throwing shoes at politicians is right or wrong............. a more appropriate way of protesting is probably throwing STONES at some of these obnoxious politicians who are bringing disgrace to our Great Nation.

It is not question of throwing shoe … it is the question why HE or SHE throw shoe … when netha makes false promises .. when netha betrays … there is no wrong in throwing shoe …

A leader ( it belong to every one in India ) should fear while he ask for vote. Politics have become a fashion now-a-days … and it is an income generated post for every netha … to if politician lost credibility …. There is no issues in throwing a shoe or stone

Politics is not a fashion show anywhere- people think so because politicians have not been able to deliver what they promised. And that's their fault - they have always played populist tunes and never allowed us to develop realistic expectations or even sense of our own social responsibilities. We urinate and spit on the streets and throw garbage anywhere we like and next moment blame the councilors for not cleaning it up.

But that does not mean job of politicians is easy. There is no leisure time, no holidays and you may be killed anytime by either your opponents or terrorists. How much we may hate our politicians we should be grateful to them for at least enabling us to enjoy our democracy which none of our neighbouring countries does.

Any form of protest is right as long as it is not meant to physically hurt anyone. Shahid Bhagat Singh also planted a fake bomb in British Parliament to protest against the Jalianwalabag massacare. But the question here is if the journalists who are supposed to be neutral should indulge in this activity. Possibly not because they are given front seat in the belief they are neutral at least in public and professional life. They cannot take advantage of that front seat to hurl shoes at their hosts.

Not just right, but I would like to call it one of the creative way of lodging protest people have taken up.

Cheap, less damaging and making a strong statement on the conscience of the protested. The magic of Shoe throwing no body can stop you easily as no one will be aware of your intentions, before you make the kill.

Things have went so ammoral in this country that protesters need to keep looking for new ways. Otherwise these people get used to the same mode and protest made fall to deaf ears.

We can indulge in some 'Gandhigiri' by throwing bouquets, (Brickbats a strict no, no !) but who knows - Our Politicians may indulge in more controversies just to get hit by bouquets. Actually "Well Used Socks" might provide better results. The response may be immediate and it does not physically hurt the speaker.

This is the cheapest, quick in evoking response, least harmful if you compare the guntotting protestors, least penal action to the protestor.

Polticians beware. It is the beginning. If the people's issues remain ignored, if the legal recourse apart from being a costly affairs and almost non-afforadable for the average or above average Indians take years to decide cases, police refuses to file an FIR and take action thereon, administration and tribunals proves ineffective, the right thinking people may not prefer to go to criminals to get their problems resolved------then such things are unavoidable and I am sure nothing could be done to stop such things. If you could stop shoes then it could some thing else.

Throwing a shoe though is wrong and probably the worst form of insulting someone but this at present seems to be the only way in which we can make our politicians work and take the correct decisions
So till the time we find a better way to get our feedback to them CARRY ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the family members are same. Indira Gandhi gave Blue Star to India way back in 80's where Sikh’s were abused and murdered, and now another close family member Mr V Gandhi (YOUNG INDIA) is busy making hate speeches against our Muslims brothers to enjoy communal riots over a mug of beer.

Gandhi's are very famous for their tricks in politics and top of this you know the best part is we don’t have much choice, as we have learned to live these politician-dog millionaire.
