'The Quality of Living Report 2009' has rated IT hub Bangalore as India's best city to live in this year. However, at 142, India's Silicon Valley falls far behind the Austrian capital Vienna, in the chart comparing the standard of living. Is Bangalore India's best city to live in? Tell us
Posted by siddhantswaroop at 07:06 PM, May 04, 2009
Yes for Bangalore's climate, greenery, people(peace loving, atmosphere(for enjoyment), safety(can freely roam on the streets at even 3 in the n8).
No for traffic(infrastructure). Dats the only problem i guess. D govt is at work with it by the Metro rail and the BIA connectivity.
Anyone begs 2 differ?????????

Perhaps it would help if we understood what were are actually comparing here. After travelling around the world, Ive realised one undisputable fact: India is by far one of the worst countries to live in despite its growing economy and eradication of much of its poverty. Comparing Bangalore to any other city in India is like comparing rotten eggs with rotten apples..not much to choose from. I havent quite understood why we Indians cannot manage to keep our cities clean and have some civic sense, when some of the poorest places around the world have done better.

Bangalore may have thousand problems, but one thing i exprienced living in bangalore for 5 years. You will eventually love this city somehow. May be because of the people.

There is no doubt about that.Bangalore is the best city in India but the floating population is spoiling this beautiful place.

This is for sure that bangalore or bengaluru is not the best city or place to live in india.i support my argument by saying that the most prevailing problem there is the communication gap between the regional people and the the migrants.though hindi is our national lanuage..they are not ready to speak it...so how can a north india or non english speaking person settle there..whereas mumbai and other metros dn't create such issues...nd ya..its very costly as well

No compulsions here...please feel free to leave Bangalore..
Outsiders come here ..use all the facilities and many of them break civic rules..and finally complain about "Bangalore"..
In reality, people who comlpain about "bangalore" would have come from some remote villages and would never have seen such a prosperous society at all.
Leave Kannadiga's to live in peace...! Feel free to leave.

Thats right. If your state can provide the same growth that Bangalore is providing you, please leave. Its better that the outsiders understand the reality that you are all here because Bangalore is providing you the growth that your state cannot. If not satisfies, you are all free to leave and prove that you can grow the same way in the other states too.

thats really correct..... some migrants come to bangalore and dont follow our rules and regulations and they talk about bangalore....
if they dont like it.... they can leave .... we bangaloreins are here from birth.. and we love this place and people...
we agree that bangalore is expensive... it is a simple common sense that if you want good quality and good life style you have to pay more.....
no body is forcing you guys.... you can leave as soon as you feel it is uncomfortable....
so many north indian people who come here just for jobs, they never return to their home town.....

Dear shriraju / unheardindian,
Please understand that the growth in bangalore is due to it's "floating population" i.e. the very best talent from the country who are willing to travel down here. If this "floating population" goes away, so will all the MNCs. They are not here to do charity to a section of Indians.
Let us all be at peace with each other and be happy. Cheers!

Ha ha ha ,Dear Mr. Owenhart,
Its a joke of the century. Let me refresh your mind. Leave Bangalore apart, The US is sustaining only because of the south Indian IT professionals. Secondly, 40% of IT professionals in Microsoft are south Indians. So learn to accept he fact of life. Bangalore can prosper even without the floating population. So you too can leave.

Dear UNHEARDINDIAN
Plesae try to visit some other places and then compare them to bangalore
Never think that by residing at bangalore you have watched and seen every nook and corner of India
Bangalore definitely is better than many a place- but worst than so many that at times one wonders how id this place called the best.
OK, problems are a plenty in every places, but here the problems are man created and self made which differentiates bangalore than the other
We have left the kannadigas to live and live in pecae, but if they themselves do not want to- who and whom to blame
Thanks
regards
Shyamal Bhattacharjee

Since last one year i am in Bangalore, as compared to Mumbai i would rate Bangalore in terms of climate the best but compared to traffic it is much worse or i can say it is a Disaster..at least Mumbai there is local train an option..i know it is crowded bt however somehow u can manage..but here full public transport is depended on BMTC bus which is never on time..the metro project which is going is not at all connecting the prime area..& progress of work is very slow..God save Bangalore during rain..Bangalore is been saved b'cos of Trees which is now been uprooted some for widening roads or some for metros..I think Bangalore Beauty lies in Trees which if it is not there..it is going to be worst in terms of climate also as it is not surrounded by seas like Mumbai..Compared with Mumbai as Bangalore most of the area is hold by Government offices, Defence & other Public Sector companies like HAL,BEl etc it is maintaining its Greenary which is not there in Mumbai as most of the land is hold by Private company..So Bangalore has an edge over Mumbai if the Trees are not uprooted..

Certainly NOT. I am living in this since one year and already thinking of shifting to Mysore. I could not tolerate the traffic jams and this is one of the reasons for my proposal toshift.

Bangalore is one of the best cities in India right now..Most tier-II cities are better than our overcrowded, over populated, over polluted metros.
Mumbai might have adequate transport but it is highky polluted, the sea is like a sewage dumping place, black oil like thing covers your feet in case you decide to walk down Juhu beach...WEstern expressway a 10 plus lane road is blocked with traffic on weekdays, and one has to tarvel fr 1 plus hour in local train, in rush hour/crush hour from borivilli to churchgate ;the people are nice, the weather is bad..
Delhi is hellish to say the least, power cuts in summer, with extreme heat (45 degrees), no water and extreme cold in winter...add to that the roads which are going ffrom bad to worse, the lack of security after dark and the extreme distance that one traverses. Then there are the people. Unlike Bombay Delhi is not for the middle class, it is for the high class, who drive in their ac car and are not bothered about who or what comes beneath their wheels. Callous is the name of the game. The only good thing is the metro, a new addition...
Bangalore by comparison is as yet not suffering from all the ills that the metros are suffering from. Add to that the excellent weather and the prospect of great connectivity thru the metro, and bangalore is definitely one of the better places to stay for all the benefits of a high quality of life that it has to offer.Add to that the people, the auto guys might be bad but the people are pretty nice and well mannered.
Bangalore has all the ingredients to be one of the best for a long time but all of us have to make sure that the green cover and the lakes are not lost under th e rising concrete, otherwise it might just go down the metro way...

Pls come to me i will pay u to visit delhi , pls go there and see the infrastructiure. There in delhi you will find same number of FLyover and u had same number of speed brakers i n bnaglaore. 1st Petrol is costlier by 6 rs then so many speed brakers. My Bikes avg was 55 in delhi which is reduced to 45 just beacuse of bad roads and speed brakers in delhi.
Bangalore is nothing but a Big village.

i am currently in delhi, have been for the past 4 months now..and believe me all my starry eyed illusions about delhi have bitten the dust....i can't even begin counting the things that are wrong with the city...but you are free to like it if u have a couple of crores in the bank..by all means do not come to bangalore...after all if everybody started coming to bangalore then the city will be overstarained just like Bombay/Delhi is right now...
