Team India crashes out of T20: Should Dhoni quit as captain?

Team India crashes out of T20: Should Dhoni quit as captain?

TimePosted by IBNLive at 12:00 PM, Jun 15, 2009 in Sports

Dashing all hopes of retaining the T20 crown, Team India on Sunday crashed out of the World Twenty20 Championship to England. While skipper M S Dhoni has apologised to Indian cricket fans for the team's ouster, he rejected suggestions that exhaustion from playing too many games in the IPL caused the failure of his top batsmen. Do you think an overdose of IPL was responsible for India's disastrous performance? Should MSD quit as skipper?

Should M S Dhoni quit as captain?

It is stupid to post this kind of questions/polls for just one loss. Only people who think negative or can not digest sports in its true spirit will think otherwise. And I am not that unhappy to see India out of this world competition, despite a great lover of Indian cricket. If India has won this game, millions of tax payer’s money will be distributed again only to few poor billionaires by so called charitable and non-profitable organisation without any hesitation at this juncture of economic crisis. God is great.

I agree it is unwise to get dejected by one loss, but unfortunately we do get carried away by one win. I am equally happy to see India out of this tournament but not for the monetary part. But for the prestige. We should be more balanced in our approach. If any of you have watched BBC1, there was a lot of joy in England having dethroned India but they are also honest about their defeat. Unfortunately, we seem to need success in world sports, activities to recoginize ourselves. Live with what you have got. And if you succeed in something, flaunt it but please do not use it as reference point.

Absolutely !! If we play 85 % of days in an year, we can expect such inconsistency.. After all they are also humans.. And BCCI should now decide what they want ! IPL or International Cricket is important.. I didnt find any team spirit in this team.. Till last week, they were fighting for each others heads and suddenly have to get together and play for India.. Its Tough !! And not a single cricketer was 100% due to exhausted cricket calendar. As a cricket fan, I want to see India playing all the days, but its not fare to our cricketers who gave us happy times in the last 1 year. Dhoni is still the best..

Yeh, the exhaustion might be a reason. But i dont think dhoni should quit as captain.I would to like to say that India are a team that is grooming up to become the no.1 team in the world. If anyone was to to be blamed , the blame should be collectively held. So lets leave out the defeat and move ahead to the bigger picture of becoming the best team. I think our people have to set the standards like the aussies earlier, we should build up a next level team ready to paly any team simultaneously such that we dont comment on fitness and have quality replacements of the standard of players getting injured. So, i think its time that the selectors think on this issue and try resolving the fatigue factor playing on the minds of our indian cricket arena. Hope that India comes back strong and become the best team in the world. "Wishes to India on their Journey" Jai HO

Many of us already knew or did not see or even ignored an another important reason for Team India’s failure in world twenty matches, it is the IPL which was started just before the world cup tournament because it may hurt the image of IPL as it is a Indian product.
So I am not against IPL or similar kind of tournaments, but the timing of it.IPL is all about having fun, experimenting, developing new techniques, strategy, sharpening your skills, peace, harmony, friendship and finding new talents.
With Indian team united, and consistent as a team with their winning streak going, they should have played IPL matches after world twenty champions cup. Since the momentum was in there favor and they could have defended the champion’s trophy surely.
But IPL simply diluted the team performance apart from fatigue, stress, injury, mental balance and team homogeneity, which led to the biggest disaster and blunder, leading to pressure and outbreak as in media and on the ground.
As once the team is diluted for certain tournaments(IPL) the mentality changes between all the players and it takes some time to regroup the team moral along with finding strengths, weakness and create a winning team mentally as well as with bat and bowl.

This indeed feels bad that we loose this opportunity to bring the world cup home again but the point is you should not start pulling each others leg for what happened.

I just have to make one point for those who have a long list of mistakes made by Dhoni should put themselves in the shoes of Dhoni and see how many good decisions they are going to make. When thousands of spectators are shouting for even an inch of your movement in the middle, its not easy to make all the decisions perfect. Sometimes you endure but sometimes you fail too, its all a part of the cricket.

1. Dhoni - for all the success that he has tasted hasn't been the best of captains for example IPL 1 and 2.
2. I think he deserved this for all the arrogance that has been built up since ODI World Cup in 2007.
3. With the early exit, he can now spend more time doing advertisements.

There is no point in having caption who take irresponsible decision on do or die situation. we have all the highly paid analyst, team member , coach and all behind great indian expensive team, still, just blunder decision, a gully cricket captian would have been lil wise on that...
very poor captaincy, and its 2 in a row. first vs WI and now Eng.
Dhoni should be leave the captaincy and let others take with much more responsibility and broader outlook. we practice and practice and practice for games like this, and if team is not able to deliver then its captain who should accept his poor captaincy and leave the position. we have such a talented side and its very sad to see such a team returning from tournament in midway.

DHONI LEAVE CAPTAINCY... NOW NO MORE DHONI LUCK. ITS DONE! TIME TO MOVE ON.

Current Rating:

dude there is something called spell check...

Please use it before posting a comment for everyone to see.

And I think every Mortal makes a mistake once in a while so everyone in the world is ruled out from Indian captaincy. Maybe Amitkr22 should be made captain so he takes all the "RIGHT" decisions!

What a fool..sheeesh!!

thanks for advice Mr. iupstud.
but i guess who so ever is reading this discussion is as literate to understand them...

and also thanks for making me the captain. i guess for the sake of writing only you posted a comment, but somewhere deep inside you is a very sad and angry individual, and consider MR. DHONI(the mortal who keep making mistakes)responsible for this loss and want to give few more chances and finally make him IMMORTAL... hihihih... but it is sad, is'nt.
anyway, Indians are known for forgetting and being forgotten, this is no exception, but, if this continues then, we all, at least, are very sure of the future of this game...

no hard feeling - but DHONI(spell check is DHOTI) should take this defeat as a result of poor captaincy and not the team's defeat. it seemed he forgot how to bat, from slogger, he has now became a nudger who just eats ball....
changes are very difficult to accept, and like others you are also not ready for this, but DHONI should leave now...

lol dude am hurt and sad deep inside...huh what?

Anyways lets not digress but as I said Dhoni (spell check ..still Dhoni) has a great track record as a captain and he failed in 1 tournament...big whoooop!!. If your logical be taken as a benchmark, Ponting should have been kicked out after 2005 ashes because Aussies were defending champs and were suppose to win easy against English..

dude shit happens...deal with it... :-)

MSD is one of the best captains India has ever produced. He is young, intrepid and confident cricketer. Wins and losses are part and parcel of any game.
So what if yesterday was the bad day for the Indian Cricket. Every Indian fan has a lot of expectations from them, and he probably believes they are the best team of all. But Everyday is not a Sunday for any team. The loss yesterday was indeed disappointing but it does not mean the end of this dynamic, young, perspicacious and versatile team.
Failures are the stepping stone to success and I am very sure the team will definitely bounce back.
Yesterday there were some tactical as well as technical errors. These mistakes have to be corrected and a fresh new start has to be made.
I believe out of this present team India, Dhoni truly deserves to be the captain.
We should not forget the Test Victory in New Zealand where he led India to first test series win after 41 years. His team was victorious against Sri Lanka, England and New Zealand. Even his IPL team CSK qualified for the semifinals for both editions of the IPL. It would be very harsh from us if we say he has to quit. He is the binding force of our team.
MSD Rocks!!! No matter India lose , but we will keep on loving him.

Well..this tournament showed that sometimes Dhoni tries to be too smart which he is not. Thank God we lost by only 3 runs...kudos to the gr8 hitter...Yusuf Pathan.
Its easy to conclude n say "It was a collective fair" but to be honest their were perfomers and non-performers in the team. Some decisions which Dhoni made during the tournament were indigestible. Reasons...
- Spoiling/shuffling the batting order in almost every match. I still do not understand why he was going at No.3 in the intitial matches and never showed any purpose. This act of his never gave any match practice to the Raina's and other down the order.
- Sending a Youngster(Jadeja) in such an important juncture of the match shows was a negative/fearful move.
- Selecting and Using Ishant Sharma's full quota who has never performed well in 20-20 matches. Not utilizing RP singh's quota who has good history in 20-20 version.
- Injury of Sehwag
- Lack of practice & Game plan
- Dhoni himself never tried to hit a boundry long after his arrival at the crease.
Dhoni should not be replaced as captain but he should be told/criticised about some of the selections/decisions he took.

the loss was quite disheartening but there is no need for dhoni to quit as a captain. he is not solely to blame. as a captain, he has accepted responsibility. that was good of him. look the no. of matches that we have won under his captaincy. just because of one single series, nothing is lost. we still have the championship trophy. surely we can regain out lost pride.let us support our team and hope and pray that our team bounces back. dhoni for no reason should step down or be removed from his captaincy post. as far as the IPL is concerned, i do think that it is tiring the players. the cricket schedule is quite hectic for our players and its affecting their performance. there is need for the players to deserve a proper rest before going in for such big events. so we can just wait and see if the board takes any decision regarding the same. well, there is no way that i will stop supporting our men in blue. GO TEAM INDIA
