Team India crashes out of T20: Should Dhoni quit as captain?

Team India crashes out of T20: Should Dhoni quit as captain?

TimePosted by IBNLive at 12:00 PM, Jun 15, 2009 in Sports

Dashing all hopes of retaining the T20 crown, Team India on Sunday crashed out of the World Twenty20 Championship to England. While skipper M S Dhoni has apologised to Indian cricket fans for the team's ouster, he rejected suggestions that exhaustion from playing too many games in the IPL caused the failure of his top batsmen. Do you think an overdose of IPL was responsible for India's disastrous performance? Should MSD quit as skipper?

Should M S Dhoni quit as captain?

It is really unfair to even discuss about this in the blogs.
Dhoni is by far the best captain ever for India and you cannot judge him by any means just because we are out of T20 World Cup.
After all in T20 really anything can happen, just look at RCB and DC from the IPL, they finished at the top this year, in 120 balls it is not so easy to be consistent, one bad over and the team is out.

Dhoni had been in poor form for last one year or so. Only reason he was still acceptable in the team is becuase of his captency which has started showing signs of overconfidence. If he feels that he can stay in the team for his wicketkeeping then Dinesh Kartik is as good a wicket keeper and connects the ball better than what Dhoni is doing.
As a captain he should take the responsibility and look into the possible change he can bring to his attitude and skills on field. If he continues to show his overconfidence then time is not far when he will be sitting before the TV and watching the team play.

Wake up Mr. Captain. Be the one you were when you came on the field 4 years back.

First of all bad luck for Indian team, Second i saw a great change in the players mind in this T20 world cup, that they lost something than last world cup in South Africa. All the players are good according to stats but the lost their momentum completely. And opponents treated with bouncers which our players fell shortly.

India's exit from the T20 Wc was solely due to lack of authority from an immature team leader. Dhoni is totally to be balmed for this. He is not fit to be a captain of this version of the game. Experimenting at this late stage was a blunder. One fails to understand the logic behind bringing Jadeja in the team so late in the tournament. Dhoni should have continued with Ojha because the 14 runs given away in an over by Yuvraj cost India the game. It could still have been won, had Dhoni not taken 20 balls to score his 30 with just 3 fours. Jadeja too was not able to deliver like he did in IPL. There was no dedication and committment from the team and they failed to understand the importance of this match. As usual they took things very easy and paid the price. Dhoni should have been more resonsible and played a match saving inning to prove all his critics wrong.

it was absolutely ridiculous captaincy by dhoni. how on earth can u send anyone ahead of yuvraj at no. 4 when everybody knows that yubi is our main batsman in t20. yubi cud have easily won the match if he wud have got chance to bat little early. 153 was not a big target at all.
but insteab dhoni sent newcomer jadeja ahead of yubraj in such a crucial match for india. not only that he also dint gave rp singh his full qota over who was bowling really well. we had enough of dhoni now . he was succesful in his captaincy mainly bcoz of his luck and some tremendous match winning performances frm our player, but now when it came his real test as captain he failed. infact he has been dissapoining in almost all the matches in this tournament.

Should dhoni quit is a dumb question at this point of time, everyone is shocked right now after India's exit from the T20 world cup but this doesn't mean that Mr. cool should be ousted from his post. Tips & tricks don't work each and every time and that's what happened to India yesterday. Ravindra jadeja is a fine player and has won many matches for his team in the IPL but it was just not his day yesterday, Sunil gavaskar once batted for the whole day and made 36 runs but later he became the greatest test batsman ever. If you take my word "T20 is no man's land" any team can win or lose, Australia ousted in the very early stage of the tournament is a decent example, so instead of cursing the players and the team we should just enjoy this format of the game, I like England spectators at the lord's they always hold a glass of beer in their hand and applaud whenever a player does something heroic. I fully support team India to perform well in the future, and my advice to Ravindra jadeja to take yesterday just as a bad day of his life and move ahead, thanks for reading, have a nice time everyone.

Certainly we could have g defended the title. The team lacked , cohesion. wayward bowling and careless batting .In all fields we failed on two days both with WI and English team.
It is a sheer lethar5gy. I do not knmow it is because 0of the IPL effect or this is less profitable . we do not know.

The body language of every one was so. Every captain is god for the first one year . Then on something gets into their head
that they make all possioble blunders.

there is on need for dhoni to quit. I kindly request dhoni to become the old fashioned dhoni who used to be a little bit fat, drinking 2 litres of milk per day and hit the ball like hitting a tennis ball. Todays dhoni is a person with bollywood heroin affairs, behaves and talks like a fashion designer, and a person with no shoulder to hit powerful shots. Please dhoni thrash all this silly habits and be yourself and play your natural game.

Hi,

This is Lakshminarayanan,

First thing we should understand this is Sports, yes we have sentiments on this and they are proffesionals they should be questioned on this loss, but if we see out current indian Team is been overloaded with more matches due to the IPL, i feel This IPL has give more new young faces but mean time it has also opened the weekness of the team by brining in the Forign players. I feel there must be some break before they go for any tournement, it can be a match practice but not such a huge schedule to tired the guys.

Dhoni has his potential yes he can be brought back to his phase, we need to wait and watch, hope he has lots of things to do as a Captain.

Please correct me if i am wrong. Lets hope the best out from our guys in further matches.

Current Rating:

Resignation will only lead to more problems for the team. insted Dhoni should try to rebuilt the team. The team spirit no longer exist in the team so he has a lot of work to do. I hope things will change soon.
