Team India crashes out of T20: Should Dhoni quit as captain?

Team India crashes out of T20: Should Dhoni quit as captain?

TimePosted by IBNLive at 12:00 PM, Jun 15, 2009 in Sports

Dashing all hopes of retaining the T20 crown, Team India on Sunday crashed out of the World Twenty20 Championship to England. While skipper M S Dhoni has apologised to Indian cricket fans for the team's ouster, he rejected suggestions that exhaustion from playing too many games in the IPL caused the failure of his top batsmen. Do you think an overdose of IPL was responsible for India's disastrous performance? Should MSD quit as skipper?

Should M S Dhoni quit as captain?

I haven been hearing this question for decades. If any major tournament is lost - Captian should be changed. How is it goin to help ??? What if the next captin fails in ICC Champions Trophy ??

BUT NO EXCUSE FOR DHONI AND TEAM. IT'S A SHAME. AS DHONI SAID - THE MORE CRICKET YOU PLAY, THE MORE EXPERINCE YOU GAIN. WHERE IS THE GAIN. THEY EARNED NICELY IN IPL.

LOOK AT PAKISTAN, NO INERNATION CRICKET OR ANY FORM OF CRICKET AFTER THE TERRORIST ATTACK ON SRILANKA, TODAY THEY ARE IN THE FINALS.

PATHETIC FIELDING, WORST BATTING, POOR BOWLING. LOSSING ALL 3 MATCHES IN SUPER 8 - SHAME ON US. POOR POOR TEAM EFFORT OR CO-ORDINATON. SO MANY INJURED PLAYERS, THAT TOO SENIOR PLAYERS, SR.PLAYERS NOT KNOWING THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE TOURNAMENT. LIED THAT THEY ARE FIT. IF THIS IS THE ATTITUDE OF OUR PLAYERS, I DOUBT IF WE CAN WIN CHAMPIONS TROPHY. SHAME ON DHONI AND TEAM.

There is so much hype about Dhoni, but when was the last time he actually put in a performance that anyone remembers. He has no real talent as a batsman and brandishes his bat like a 5 year old child (which occasionally comes off on slower pitches in the Sub Continent). He is certainly not equipped to face the world’s best bowlers. He is self promoting and self preserving. He shuffles the batting order to suit himself and not the team. He tried too many things as captain trying to attract attention to himself with “out of the box” thinking. The results are 50-50.

After the performances of Dinesh Karthik and Parthiv Patel in this year’s IPL, Dhoni didn’t deserve a place in the team. The captain is also a player; he needs to contribute with the bat as well. No point about his win rate as captain for victories that have been earned by other players’ efforts. And to top it off, he make some of the worst commercials I’ve seen by any cricketer. Can’t bat, can’t act!!!

in fact we should take lesson from Pakistan, for the last many months everyone is watching so much violence in that country, no international cricket in the last few months, then also they are in finals. Australia who claim themselves the champions are out of the tournament. England who are inventors of this game are out of the tournament. India, last time champions are out of the tournament. Each country had a chance in IPL to know about other players weaknesses & strengths, then also India lost all the matches in Super eight. I think Indian team was over confident of winning the title this time, which has been the main reason for their debacle. Well that means IPL was not played for the game sake , just for monetary gains.

This is the biggest problem in india, Why should doni quit?

there was absolutely no team work, they had a lethargic attitude. No one was serious about winning. Even in the last chance against england, they tried to win only in the last over. If there is an attitude problem among the players, it must be sorted out, but captain definitely has a say in the team, if that is not taken down by the team members it is their fault.

Playing for India Team is one of the most perstigious & highly paid job in India. No excuse is justifiable there. if you are not tired in earning so much money by doing everything you do, then you are not tired by playing cricket. Does not matter, who says it. if the Coach/Captain/Manager believes in it, it's the time to replece them from these insanely high paid jobs

My friend please dont equate playing for a country with an executive in an office. It has more guts and surely a lot of pride. A failure hurts more to a player than the audiences wathing the game. They are the one who step on the field and are the flag bearers of their country. So my request to u is that please dont always say that playing for a country is a highly paid job. Get into the shoes of any player and u will definately feel their pain when they go down and not been able to make their coyntry proud. Yes our team has gone down but dont forget their stupendous performance during the last one and a half years. soory if I had been harsg=h but the word ' highly paid job' really made me upset.

Cricket has become one of the most 'glamerous' profession; mostly for the amount of money & endorsement it brings to the player(s) & of course bring to the Board. It's a full time very complex, regionally biased, political & high paid profession for the players & a corporate & global financial franchize for the Board, which they enjoy. There is nothing wrong is ackowledging that. They are tired, if they are, because they play more. Why they play more, because they know their time is limited to earn the most of money. They take a lot of risk & gamble on their physical & mental health. The same kind of risk & gamble Satyam's Executive took. All of those are fine. And paying the price is the must. All excuses should shoot down. Be it Dhoni or anybody. With v little money, our soldiers in Kargill are gambling their lives & they win. They don't complain that it was/is cold or I am tired or have headache. So plz do not hide behind the "country" & say we are tired. You have opted for this profession. You get more upset w/o being in the centre stage. So take the heat. As an warriar of this niche corporate world, that's your accountabily to the country. You are not above the blame & ejection of the disgraseful departure in the early stage. Hope you see my points beyond romanticism.

In a World Cup - the teams play for the country. You cannot let it pass by saying 'sometimes we loose and sometimes we win' or to say that "we are more disappointed than the cricket fans." this is ridiculous. It is not like IPL or dancing in a commercial. Loosing at a World Cup has its consequences. So Dhoni should apologize and step back until his swelled head shrinks back to the original size.

No reasons for Dhoni to quit as Captain.U can lose and win Cricket Games.

See Performance before T20WC

1. NZ Tour:Great win in both ODIS and TEST Matches
2. SL Tour:Win in ODIS
3. AUS Tour:India Beating them at Home turf in TEST Matches.

Just it is necessary to get Key Players like Dhoni,Raina,Gambhir, Ishant in some good form.

Then seen all again will work in favor of TEAM INDIA.

This is a stupid question really. Look at south Africans or kiwis they never change their captain for decade. the team management and BCCI should learn from these boards how to form a healthy team and team environment.

India is in third in Test and ODI... hope they will reach top spot soon. Dont worry about T20 even Afghanistan(recently they got ODI status) can win on given day.

Come on folks!!You win,you lose. Its a game.Team India cant win always. There are ups & downs with everybody.MSD is one of India's most succesful captains.Just look at the winning percentages under him in the last 18-20months he's taken over the reigns.Infact the reason people & the media is over reacting is that all have got used to India winning constantly. So to accept defeat is difficult.Like the Aussies under Mr.Ponting.They won constantly & once the brakes were put he started blowing his cool.Be happy that MSD is always "COOL" & success doesnt go to his head,in spite of his hair being shorter now.Have a heart.Dont write him off.And if you want to replace HIM,may I ask WHO IS THERE?that's putting it lightly.
Agreed the performances & decisions were bad in the tournament, but have a heart. You cant score a fifty or century everytime nor take a wicket in every ball. There is someone always better than you in the game.Team India will be back !!dont lose sleep over it.

This is absolute ridiculous. How can you talk about removing the most successful captain of India. The irony is this campaign is initiated by press not by cricket crazy fans. The irony of Indian cricket is either we are too favorable or too against it. When the team is winning the press makes money praising Team India and when they loose they make easy money criticizing Team India. The Indian press don't work constructively helping the Team in analyzing the reasons and help boost their morale by reminding them of their capabilities and achievements. The Indian press has spread the rumor that Sehwag was sidelined by Dhoni in 20-20 World cup, what has happened to him now ? Why selectors left him from the W.Indies tour ? Why he is getting his shoulder treated ? Well no answers ... the so called CIA agents spreading the rumor should be responsible for the debacle of Indian Team not Mr. Dhoni.
