Do you agree with Kirsten that IPL overdose killed India

Do you agree with Kirsten that IPL overdose killed India's T20 chances? | Read Story

TimePosted by IBNLive at 12:15 PM, Jun 16, 2009 in Sports

Team India coach Gary Kirsten has said that "the timing of the Indian Premier League" was responsible for India's debacle in the Twenty20 World Cup. The South African former cricketer has said that fatigue factor and injuries sustained by the players in the IPL were the main reasons for Team India's early exit. Do you agree with Kirsten that too much of IPL was responsible for India's T20 debacle?

I agree totally with Kirsten!
If not the only reason, this was one of the prime reasons for our "tired and hurt" cricket team.

in IPL they played 56 matches with full form, everyone performed and was on his toes and none of them looked tired when on the field..why they got tired after those 56..were they not aware that they have to play the WORLD CUP and that is the ultimate honor...but everyone chose money on the first place..When playing the games in the world cup they really looked tired(I have noticed and surely you all would also have)Being Dhoni on the crease they were not able to manage 39 runs..thts really shame..

Not acceptable.. BCCI needs to make some strategies and needs to keep an eye on the schedule so that these kind of reasons shld not be given to the countrymen again...

Thnks

will somebody publish the audit reports of bcci accounts. make it public. they are earning grostique amounts. how is the money being spent on betterment of sport in the country. remember the audit report that said that bcci got more money by selling empty liquor bottles used by its members than it spent on cricket. it is being used as a free holiday sponsor for its members.

What i don't get is whats the big deal about this loss....lets face it guys.T20 isn't cricket..its just a money minting factory for the organisers as well as the players. Dhoni is the guy who has been responsible for Team India's revival post the 2007 WC disaster so this much we need to grant it to him.. one bad tournament does not make a team or a captain bad....but all we know is to ditch the team when they require a little support..for all those gunning for Dhoni's head...all i want to ask is name the alternative...and we don't even need an alternative..he is doing a good job..we are reading too much into one bloody tournament..give them some breathing space guys

Cricket to me is a professional sport and not a game where a bunch of seriously injured guys with a lackadaisical and 'do-not-care' approach for the country, play. The Board has been treating this game like its fiefdom and the players are in it ONLY FOR THE MONEY, not for the country's honour and pride. Else, why wud Dhoni, Yuvraj,Zaheer and Sehwag and all the other guys (nobody knows the real facts yet on injuries - its all washed under te carpet by BCCI)not opt out when they know they had injuries on them. The total system needs a revamp else the country's honour will be repeatedly brought to shame...

Is cricket the only way to bring honour to the country???? i agree with you that the players have lost their head with all that crazy money and a crazier board...but sriously i could not make out through out the tournament that the players underperformed because of any discomfort due to an injury..and we have larger issues then worry abit loosing our pride due to a game like cricket...

Definately overdose and money, and money and glamour, limelight, advertisement is ruining the game and professional cricketers in India, watch out like politics cricket the game will be totally lost and will be controlled by people like lalit modi who runs the game only for and by money, it is gamblers game and everybody needs to accecpt the fact in India, no more it is sport and allow Icl to compete and pick players who are the best and fit from any of the leagues and allow multiple leagues to work so that greed to aquire wealth is lost and they become totally good cricketers.

I agree with Gary. Playing 14 matches in a trot and that too within 5 weeks has caused a lot of wear and tear. The BCCI has to be blamed as Arjuna said -putting the monies ahead of national interest. No use blaming Dhoni for this albeit his captaincy was not the one we know about.

Current Rating:

Lets see things the way they are. Blaming IPL for the T20 exit is not acceptable.Players can only be fit when they keep playing. IPL and this format of the game never takes a lot out of the players. The basic factor for Team India's early exit is pressure. We have always seen the Indian team succumbing to pressure. We won the last edition of T20 world cup because it was a new team.No one expected them to win the world cup. They were pressure free. They had a free to go and confident players. But in this world cup except for a few players like Yuvraj and Harbhajan others were under immense pressure to perform and were unable to hold on to it.India in inernational arena were never comfortable against short balls.Earlier teams like Australia have exploited this weakness of our teams.Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina need to work on their skills in playing short balls. IPL can only provide the players a platform to play aganist quality worldclass bowlers.Hence let's accept that it was a clear failure of our players to overcome quality bowling under pressure and not IPL or its timing.

Loss of T20 is not that great. Why Dhoni should resign? What he can do when some of the players are not fully fit and some even did not declare their sickness. Perhaps the Indian team members might have got embarassed to say they got injured during IPL 2 lest people think that they play where money is there. Dhoni is a resource and do not point fingers at him. He is smart and cool and will resurrect like a collosus. Give support when he and the team needs most.
