Lalgarh row: Is the Left Front losing control in West Bengal? | Read Story

TimePosted by IBNLive at 12:01 PM, Jun 18, 2009 in IBNPolitics

The Lalgarh episode in West Bengal has brought to focus the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. While the ruling Left Front has alleged that the Congress-Trinamool combine has been supporting Naxal activity in the area, the Union Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee has used this to press her demand for advancing Assembly elections. Is this the end of the road for the Left Front in West Bengal?

I see that the Lalgarh maoists are calling for truce, withdrawal of forces and then talk with the Government in their lair at Lalgarh which is to be brokered by "buddhijibi" or "intellectuals" which is the correct translation of the original word.

Who are these so called intellectuals which means "humans having a highly developed ability to think, reason, and understand, especially in combination with wide knowledge sans emotion".

Firstly I see these are emotive people.

Secondly these are a motley crowd of theatre personalities, actors/actresses of big and small screen whom no one will remember one day, a motley collection of painters and writers whose books don’t sell beyond first edition.

The so called intellectuals are either those who have benefitted through largesse of both Congress and LF at some time or other and they have used the parties in power to further their life and also furthered the cause of the parties they benefitted from.

What were they doing during the turbulent days of naxals when most of them were in college stage? we all know their roles. What did they do post 1977 - why did they keep quiet in the face of LF's systematic corruption of all things?
So why are they out in streets now? Take a close look at the people and you will se that for most of them either the hay days are over or they are a bunch of failed people who now want to find a place under the new rising sun.

But any way does that make them eligible to be called intellectuals and take control of things that are way beyond their capability?

Is that the reason why a new term being coined instead in media and by the maoists is "intelligentsia" which means " highly educated members of a society or community, especially those who are interested in the arts, literature, philosophy, and politics"?

Nice sleight of language I must say. So will the our responses to the solution of the problem be "convinient" responses or real long term workable solutions?

Nepal’s Maoist Government which was pitch-forked into political power in Nepal by India’s present Government in 2007 finally played the ‘China Card’ against India. Notably, asserted earlier by the Maoist Prime Minister and now reiterated further was his desire to scrap the existing India-Nepal Treaty with a new one and at the same time emphasizing that the Maoist Government intends to sign a Special Treaty with China. Reports indicate that China behind the scenes encouraged the Maoist Government to ignore friendly advice from India and other major countries not to interfere with the composition of the Nepal Army. Since the central government has banned the CPI(maoists) in India, they should be careful and monitor the security challenge from Nepal as well as China.

lalgarh incident is only the tip of the iceberg giving a clear indication of the slide of left front government. while for over thirty years the left haad held its tight grip things turned pvernight after the lok sabha election giving a glaring insight into left lapses. fortunately for them there is still some hope as the left government is lead by a moderate and not a hawk. let us hope prosperity for the state is more vital than holding on to power at any cost in which left has been the master. the cycle is now turning firmly against their policies and imaginary leadership can still bring prosperity to west bengal a state which has been left far behind while the country has been progressing.

Banning Maoist is the right job by the govt it should have been done early i this its 2 late.

again the same story is back like Let, LTTE, ULFA, NDFB groups they also started for the people of there community and took the arms to fight for there needs but before taking arms i think they were fighting for there community but now the politics have entered.

Every one knows without the help of the political party no organisation can procide any were and also to procure so much sofisticated wepons to fight with the govt, killing the security persons is a pation for the terrorist organisation to show there capability but the govt is not taking any action on them this is very sad for every one

Leading political commentators (HT Manas chakraborty in his col on june 21st) have clearly put forward the issues at Lalgarh.

How can the government put down by brutal force demands of food, drinking water, health care and shelter from its own citizens? is it not a constitutional right?

One should realise that maoist is the bi-product of Marxist. Thatswhy LeftFront Govt. has some relaxation, otherwise a person from some other state cant be able to mobilise people in some other state to counter law of thw state.

Current Rating:

CPI(M)along with all other left parties have ruled our beloved once the land of intellectuals, heavy and small scale industries and land of opprtunities for the last 33 long years. They have not taken care of the poor people, workers in agriculture or industries, infrastructure of west bengal like road, bridges, dams, hospitals, schools and colledges etc. etc. But the left front especially CPI(M) has build their cadres and tranined them as part regiment. The regimental forces been used to rule the state keeping citizens mum at the point of endless atrocities. Now, the tolerence level of all section of people in west bengal rich or poor have crossed its limit. Last panchayet and general election has already proved that left parties will be routed in west bengal. the CPI(M) myth is very quickly disappering. All citizens of west bengal now want freedom from leftfrnt rule especially CPI(M).The poor people of our villages which are malnourished, no opportunity of job, health, education etc.etc. is being marked by CPI(M), are crushing their voices using state forces. I request left front and central government to stop this misadventure. Go to the people of lalgarh, feel their grievances and difficulties and try whole heartedly to ease our their genuine problem. In this process maoist from west bengal and all other part of India will be vanished and they will join our main stream politics.
And I also wish to request all major and minor political parties to forget to rely on money and muscle power, allow all section of people of India to express their ideas, grievances and who ever rule the state/ country should whole heartedly try to provide means for basic needs in life for everybody irrespective of caste religion etc etc.

When ordinary people are denied justice then this is the way they react. Unfortunately, the centre is still acting like these people are a bunch of pakistan trained terrorists.
I agree that violence of any kind should not be tolerated and Chidambaram is doing a good job of containing the naxal menace. But for god's sake why does India have naxals in the 21st century. The politicians have to answer for that.
Quite an irony that this should happen in a communist state. Aren't they the "as they only claim" the most pro-poor of all. Like Cho Ramaswamy said, if "Left has a future in India then India has no future left." These guys should be hanged to death.
