Should Class X Boards be scrapped?

Should Class X Boards be scrapped? | Read Story

TimePosted by IBNLive at 01:08 PM, Jun 25, 2009 | Updated at 01:09 PM, Jun 25, 2009 in IBNPolitics

It is still a germ of an idea, but if the Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal has his way, Class X Board exams may be a thing of the past. Sibal has come has come up with a innovative idea to reform school education system and is planning to scrap the Class 10 board examination. Instead, he wants to set up an evaluation system based on percentiles. Do you think scrapping Class X Board exams is a practical idea? Will this affect the quality of education?

Current Rating:

I , personally congratulate Mr. Kapil Sibal to have taken a decision on this subject ,which was being debated for a long time.
Here is the difference between the people who are moderate and have the educational qualifications to pursue the best things in the interest of public & students at large. He has also taken one bold step for establishing a regulatory authority surpassing the U.G.C
The capitation at all levels i.e schools and colleges should immediately be banned and should be taken up with harsh prosecutions including taking over these institutions by the govt. in case of any evidence against them.
I once again compliment the MINISTER OF HOD Mr. KAPIL SIBAL to have scrapped the Xth BOARD Exams.

I personally appreciate Kapil Sibal sir's decision.Board exams should be abolished.Due to the presence of boards the teaching in school becomes mark oriented. The students are made to learn because they "HAVE TO" and not because they "WANT TO".The real joy of subjects like maths and science are being abolished. For example consider maths, the real dynamics of a theorem is not realised, the students are not made to think and realise the beauty of the subject. The teachers teach maths and the teaching is not based on the subject but BOARDS AND MARKS.In science the examination is not at all application oriented.Though they ask HOTS (High Order Thinking level Questions) ,the teachers discuss all the possible questions in class room discussions and the students are made to mug up the concept. They do so because their objective is only on how to make the students get marks in the boards and how they can bring name to their school .Many students due to the excessive pressure to concentrate on boards fail to expose their talents in olympiads and their IQ remains low.

i think 10th boards should be scrapped ,as the 10th certificate is not at all important for any future basis and moreover it reduces the suicides of immature students.
and i really thank Mr.Sibal who has come up to scrap the 10th boardexams

Board exams should be scrapped but attendance to class should be compulsory and cross checking of conduct and character by all means is required by the educational authorities, also frequent inspection to all the institution is desired if any mal practised is encouraged and such institution should be closed and attached to other institution who are contributing in the fields of education, no private institutes should be allowed to get away with any mal practises.

we should crapped the "BOARD" exam for Xth.why we are unnecessarily putting pressure of Board exam on childs of 16-17 years old. As at all marks of Xth board have no value in many courses. When majority things are decised on the basis of XIIth or various entrance exam, Xth board exam loosing the shen. Morever, it may reduce some suicides of the immature childs.

Dear Mr. Sibal,

Thank you so much for presenting such a fantastic idea of not testing the capabilities of students just to reduce stress/pressure.

How about scrapping the CAT entrance exam as well, Over 2 lakh student prepare under so much stress to crack it. Also the AIIMS entrance, you are not forgetting that, right??

If you actually want to IMPROVE something, then go ahead and reduce the stress that schools have on theoretical knowledge and reduce this STRESS. Make schooling more practical and learning experience and not a stressful rote one.

Also please have a look at the stress parents feel by the exponential hiking fees by the schools.

There is no doubt that we need to have some changes introduced in to our current system. Is scrapping Class X Board exams the right thing?, this is something that the government should decide after public debate and discussions with parties involved. However, what needs to be changed is the way the two hours of exams are used as a means to measure the knowledge. Well, the good thing is that this has sparked a whole a new debate on our current education system, which is for the better.

Scrapping Class X board is a conspiracy to disturb the system of education. Mr. Kapil Sibal is only playing to the gallery. If a few hundred students commit suicide merely because they could not do well it does not mean that the whole system of examination is flawed. They should be assured that they will have a second chance to improve.
We could have a softer way of examination like giving an extra chance to the students who do not do well in their board exams. A student should be given the chance to improve even before his summer holidays are over and he should be allowed to take another exam immediately after the results are declared. This would allow the child to refresh himself/herself and also avoid wasting his one year. It would not put any extra burden on studying the same subjects again.
We have to have a system of evaluating the students.

THIS REFORM ONLY PROMOTES THE PRIVATE INDUSTRY IN EDUCATION.

EDUCATION IN GOVT BECOMES FURTHER UNACCOUNTABLE UPTO CI-12.

WE ARE IN A COUNTRY WHERE WE WANT EDUCATION SHOULD BE MADE

COMPULSORY.

AT PRESENT ,THE STUDENTS OF GOVT SCHOOLS ARE NOT AT ALL UNDER

ANY PRESSURE AS THE MOST OF THE TEACHING FACULTY IS

UNACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR PERFORMONANCE,

LET THE CHILDREN OF POLITICIANS AND BEUAROCRATS JOIN THEIR KIDS

STUDY IN GOVT SCHOOLS AND THEN DECIDE ABOUT THE REFORMS.

THE STUDENTS WHO STUDY IN CORPORATE/PRIVATE SCHOOLS ARE UNDER

TREMENDOUS PRESSURE (THE PARENTS KNOW AND WANT THIS) WITH

WEEKLY EXAMS,CYCLE TESTS,LONGER WORKING HOURS UNDER SOME

PRETEXT, WILL DEFINITELY DO MUCH BETTER THAN THE STUDENTS OF

GOVT SCHOOLS WHO STUDY WITHOUT PRESSURE. THE PARENTS ARE PAYING

HEFTY FEES TO ADMIT THEIR WARDS IN PRIVATE SCHOOLS,EVEN TAKING

LOANS.

THE GOVT SHOULD CONCENTRATE ON UPGRADING THE STANDARD AND THE

AVAILABILITY OF THEIR SCHOOLS TO THE COMMON PEOPLE OF INDIA AND

THEN THINK ABOUT REFORMING THE PRESENT SYSTEM.

The tender age of 14, 15 or 16 is a very tender age when students sit for their Class X Board exams. Some are very mature at this age and some, more fragile; who take the ultimate decision to end ones life. Pressure to succeed is there in all walks of Life. MJ was under pressure to perform and his dependence on drugs, brought him closer to his End.
My belief that good parenting, guides their children to make proper decisions and strengthen their Foundations on Education.
NO MATTER HOW OLD WE GROW, WE WILL ALWAYS BE LEARNING SOMETHING NEW.
Trust the system will work out a method for our beloved children.

The approach of the minister is good. But how this is going to be executed must be watched. The new system must be competitive and take into account of the RURAL STUDENTS.The rural students must get quality teachers(TEACHERS MUST BE WELL EQUIPPED)to make this new system a sucess in RURAL areas too so that knowledge is given to all equally.
