What can be done to make trains safer?

What do you think can be done to make trains safer in India? Should there be more police personnel deployed? Should railway platforms be monitored closely? Tell us what you think should be done to make travel by train a safer experience.

THE MOST IMPORTANT LOOP HOLE IN OUR RAILWAYS IS LACK OF SECURITY CHECKING AS IN AIRPORTS. EVERY MAJOR STATION SHOULD HAVE STATE OF ART BAGGAGE CHECKING SYSTEM AND REGULAR CHECKING SHOULD TAKE PLACE IN TRAINS TO AVOID MISHAPS.

Privatize Indian Railways.

Delhi metro is safe.

Government bureaucrats are incapable baboons. Private sector of India is the heart of the Indian economy. Government is the leach.

Foremost of things to do to make Train travel safer would be to allow only bonafide passengers to enter into their respective compartments and for checking this there should be attenders on all reserved bogies. Vendors approved by Railways only should be allowed inside trains. The other measure for the safety of the luggage would be to provide tagging of baggages with a list of those items recorded in a register by the attender as and when brought in or taken out. Also,at stations there can be CCTVs positioned throughout the length of a train for general surveillance.

After completing the journey, the trains are taken to the yard where there is no security. Anything can be planned here . Secondly, only the passengers shall be allowed inside the platforms to board the trains just like the airports. Thirdly, name/age of travellers shall be printed for passengers travelling in general compartments also.

1.install CC TV cameras on all trains must on Lady's only train and keep monitoring it by this number of security guards on the train can be reduced and can be monitored easily sitting at one place
2. for all journeys install ticket swiping machine so that only travelers can enter the platform. It will reduce the risk of ticket less travel and less work to TT as well and the crowd on the platform.
3. Fine should be high for ticketless travels when punishment is tuff people will be scared to travel ticketless
4. Display the reserved seat names in bold and visible letters. At present it is difficult to read the names in the night or when it rains.
5. It will be nice if you install push button doors like Europe has.
6. Why can't we have closed glass windows this will avoid all the sellers/thieves / baggers on the station and journey will be more comfortable.

For safer journeys, we shld ensure that all the platforms across the country be made of the same length and height and also make sure that the passengers dont cross the tracks while all the stations have both steps as well as ramps to cross from one platform to other.
RPF shld be made more stricter and vigilant than what they are today.
Make all the coaches similar to that of Metros or only if we have a ticket then the door of the train opens once swiped or access card type so that the authorised personal can get into the coaches.
Ensure that the eunuchs dont get into the trains and beg, if they need to be taken care of, then railways can give them some jobs like track maintainence and all that what very old people do today so that the Eunuchs have the security of jobs and don't harass people.
Berths in all coaches shld be uniform height as well as the thickness shld be the same, offlate all the berths in every class of coaches have become more thinner and they are more like wooden planks with some covers, which is really bad.
pure drinking water for drinking shld be provided in all coaches so that the bottles throwing on the tracks will reduce.
Quality of food in all trains shld be improved. All the vendors shld serve food with the plastic gloves or hygenic modes as they dont do it today.
Guards or the drivers shld announce the name of the stations in the trains so that passengers can get to know the destination and get down, else there are quite a lot who get carried away during the night journeys & miss their station.
Ensure that the RPF is provided with proper armed weapons incase someone throws anything on the trains to destroy, make the trains passing thro UP, Bihar & Naxal regions more protected to avoid all the unnecessary incidents that happen these days on trains.
Doctors is a good idea but atleast the guard coach can have a medical facility for emergency treatments.

The Railway Ministry’s announcement that it will have a human face is welcome. First of all spacious seating arrangement in reserved seats as well as (Pandian, Rockfort, Nellai Express) elimination of SNAKEHOLE ENTRY SPCAE in the three tier SIDE sleeping berths (both in AC and sleeper class) is very much needed. Frequent traveler like me or anyone who is taller find very, very difficult to get into it will do the job.

A change in attitude among railway officials, minister & passengers is the only thing required to make trains safer. Ralway official must take the matter more than just doing Naukuri, Minister should leave politics & passengers should leave crybaby mindset. A vigil.alert, responsible team work between authorities & public only can ensure safety not only in the trains but also in the nation

I welcome our railway minister idea of appointing doctor , but we can appoint doctors for all the trains not only for long distance train.

Why dont we video tracking in each compartment, so that we can avoid thieves entering the compartment.

The obvious would be to have one police personnel deputed say for about 3 coaches. But the problem is in implementaion as there are no checks to see if they do what they are assigned for.I am a frequent travller and have found the doors of the compartment open most of the time and the Police personnel is no where in sight once every one has gone to sleep.
