CNN-IBN's Veeraraghav met 11-year-old Kokila, who lost both her grandmother and her best friend to the tsunami. Her anger at the sea and her frustration tumbled forth on paper as she vented her feelings in the form of poems.

Tharangambadi (Tamil Nadu): Eleven-year-old Kokila has a unique way of dealing with the sea of anguish the tsunami has left in her life.

After her grandmother and her best friend were killed last year, Kokila decided to vent her anger against the sea by writing poems to the sea seeking an explanation for its sudden brutality.

"I was very angry with the sea because it took away lives, but now my anger has subsided. I have to look at the water everyday and I just can't be angry at it anymore. The poems have helped quell my fury," says she.

Kokila may have forgiven the sea but the poems that the vehemence of the tsunami motivated her to write have become the inspiration for an English song.

The idea of recording the song in Pondicherry was conceived when Stefan Teplan, a German musician doubling up as a tsunami aid worker, happened to meet Kokila while helping victims cope with the disaster.

Kokila had shown him her poems and he was struck by the innocence and the simplicity of the words.

Teplan, who works for Caritus International, an NGO involved in tsunami relief, said, "The poems are a heart-rending mixture of her feelings. She has always loved the sea and used to risk her parents' wrath to go and play in the water. Then the tsunami came and she hated the sea. It's really a combination of love and hate."

Kokila now wants to write more poems. She says it's helped her communicate with nature, people and herself and she has been able to overcome her pain to some extent.
