

13 suffer burn injuries in AP
PTI | 11:11 PM,Nov 05,2010Hyderabad, Nov 5 (PTI) Thirteen persons, including some women, suffered burn injuries, in separate incidents in Andhra Pradesh today during Diwali celebrations, police said. Eight persons, who were preparing crackers with the fire-cracker powder at their house in Chirala town of Prakasam district were injured after fire broke out from a room where the fire-cracker powder was stored, a police officer told PTI over phone. "The heap of fire-cracker powder suddenly caught fire at around 11.30 am. Eight persons who suffered burn injuries in the incident were first taken to the Government hospital in Chirala and later referred to another hospital in Guntur district," the police officer said, adding, "In view of Diwali festival, these people were preparing fire-crackers for own purpose and not for sale." In another fire incident at Ranga Reddy district, which the police said was accidental, five persons most of them women sustained burn injuries when flames erupted in a kitchen after a cooking (LPG) gas cylinder leaked while it was being replaced with a empty cylinder. The incident occurred at the residence of one Janardhan Reddy in Mallareddypalli village of Tandur mandal of Ranga Reddy district at around 4.15 pm, when his relatives who had come down for Diwali celebrations were cooking, a police officer explained. All the five persons suffered minor injuries in the accidental fire mishap and there was no cylinder blast, the police officer added.
