30 kg of smuggled Sea Horse seized
PTI | 01:12 PM,Dec 15,2011Rameswaram (TN), Dec 15 (PTI) Thirty kilograms of dried Sea Horse worth about Rs 23 lakh in the international market, was seized from an omni bus bound for Chennai from here, police said. The smuggling was uncovered last night when bus company owners got suspicious of the two parcels, booked by one Saravanan, and informed the police. The two parcels contained 30 kg of dried sea horses and were were to be delivered to one Baskaran of Chinthathiripet in Chennai. A hunt is on to nab those involved in the incident. Poaching and possession of Sea Horse is banned in India since it is classified as a Schedule I animal under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
