Ambedkar appeals to defer civic elections by 15 days
PTI | 07:02 AM,Feb 04,2012Nagpur, Feb 4 (PTI) Bharip Bahujan Mahasangh leader Prakash Ambedkar today demanded that State Election Commission should postpone the elections of Municipal Corporations by 15 days in the wake of High Court decision on caste validity certificates of Scheduled Caste candidates. "The SEC should revise the election schedule and defer elections by 15 days as the High Court decision asking the candidates to provide caste validity certificate attached with nomination forms may take time", Ambedkar told a press conference here today. He said his party's legal cell has opined that even the apex court would not be able to overrule the High Court decision since it has no powers to change caste validity certificate procedure. A good number of nominations will be rejected at the Returning Officer level, he said. Ambedkar who has forged an electoral alliance with Congress for the February 16 election also released a list of 25 candidates.
