Anganwadi workers and Sahayikas under ICDS to get sarees in WB

Kolkata, Sep 9 (PTI) The Anganwadi workers and their Sahayikas (Assistants) under Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) in West Bengal would now get two sarees each annually along with badges for their office uniform free of cost from the state government."Sarees for Anganwadi workers and their Sahayikas will be in two different colours and cost Rs 200 each. The sarees will be procured from the state-run weavers cooperative Tantuja", State's Women, Child and Social Welfare Minister Biswanath Chowdhury said here today.Distribution of sarees would cost the state government Rs 8 crore and badges Rs 48 lakh, the minister said.Out of 1,16,390 ICDS centres sanctioned in the state, 1,10,510 centres were now active, where 1,02,000 Anganwadi workers and 94,000 Sahayikas are working at present, he said.While Anganwadi workers get Rs 2,850 per month as remuneration (Rs 1500 from Centre plus Rs 1350 from the state government), their Sahayikas (Assistants) get Rs 2,100 per month as remuneration (Rs 750 from the Centre and Rs 1350 from the state government).The minister said that the state government has received sanction from the Centre for taking rice from the FCI godowns for the ICDS centres. At present the ICDS centres get supply of foodgrains through Essential Commodities Supply Corporation (ECSC), CONFED and Self-Help Groups etc.Per head allocation for children and fuel cost per ICDS centre have already increased to improve service under ICDS project, the minister added.
