Bangalore gets new Police Commissioner
PTI | 09:05 PM,May 02,2011After the formal takeover function, Bidari said, "I am very happy with the transfer. Who should be tranferred is the government's prerogative. Our duty is to abide by the order of the government. Appointment of DGP, has nothing to do with the transfer. When the time comes it (post of DGP) will come". When asked about the petition he had recently filed in the Karnataka High Court challenging the legality of a Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) order directing only a certain category of officers to be recommended by UPSC for empanelment for the post of the DGP, he said, "there is conflict between IPS pay rules amended in 2007 and the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs and UPSC on the basis of a Supreme Court order". "It has to be decided by the court (High Court) and whatever decision it takes will be implemented", he said. Earlier, Mirji, who took over as the new Bangalore City Commissioner, said ensuring law and order in the city would be his top priority. Mirji, recipient of Police Gold Medals for both meritorious and distinguished service, was responsible for meticulously planning "Operation Cocoon" on October 18, 2004 which resulted in the death of India's most wanted and most feared crimial Veerappan who along with his three associates fell to bullets in Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu, carrying a reward of Rs 5.5 crore on their heads.
