PTI | 10:08 PM,Aug 25,2010

police New Delhi, Aug 25 (PTI) CBI today approached the Supreme Court seeking transfer of the investigations into the killing of Tulsiram Prajapati case from Gujarat police to itself as it was closely connected to Soharabuddin Sheikh fake encounter death case. Prajapati was a key witness in the killing of Sheikh and his wife Kauser Bi by the Gujarat police in which Amit Shah, former Minister of State for Home and a close aide of Chief Minister Narendra Modi, has been arrested. The affidavit filed by CBI in connection with the killing of Sheikh in the fake encounter by the Gujarat Police said "the killing of Prajapati cannot be considered in isolation". The agency said this was because Prajapati was an eye witness when Sheikh was picked from the bus by the Gujarat Police before he was gunned down. CBI in its affidavit stated that it has evidence to prove the involvement of Shah in Sheikh killing case and therefore it would also like the Prajapati case to be handed over to it. The apex court had on January 12 handed over the investigation iinto the Sheikh killing case to CBI which had filed a progress report on its probe in a sealed cover last month. Sheikh was killed in a fake encounter with police near Ahmedabad on November 26, 2005. Earlier, CBI has sought more time to probe the case saying that it has to plug the missing parts to complete the sequence of events as earlier investigations have given a sketchy findings about Prajapati. Prajapati was also killed in a police encounter in the end of 2006.
