Chief Justice of Pak SC to attend Law Conference in India
PTI | 10:02 PM,Feb 03,2011Rezaul H Laskar Islamabad, Feb 3 (PTI) Chief Justice of Pakistan's Supreme Court Iftikhar Chaudhry will travel to India to attend the Commonwealth Law Conference being held at Hyderabad from February 5. Prime Minster Manmohan Singh will be the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the conference. The meet will be addressed by the Chief Justices and judges of Commonwealth countries. Besides the Chief Justice, Pakistan will be represented by a large number of advocates from across the country. Chaudhry has been especially invited to give a key note address on the issue of "Emerging economies and the rule of law: Challenges and Opportunities". It is expected that the Chief Justice will speak on the issue of rule of law, role of judiciary in economic and social development and good governance, global trade laws and democracy and rights-based administration in developing countries like Pakistan. He is scheduled to meet India's Chief Justice S H Kapadia on the sidelines of the meeting. Chaudhry will also attend a patron Chief Justices meeting in which top judges of Commonwealth countries will discuss issues of interest to judiciaries. The Conference is being organized by the Commonwealth Law Association and will provide an important opportunity for judicial luminaries and legal practitioners from across the Commonwealth to share their experiences and perceptions about law, an official statement said.
