

Cold wave unabated inspite of sunny day
PTI | 09:02 PM,Feb 11,2012Shimla, Feb 11 (PTI) The piercing cold wave gripping most parts of Himachal continued today without any respite inspite of a sunny day as minimum temperatures hovered around freezing point at most of the places in mid and higher hills. Manali remained the coldest in the non-tribal areas with minimum temperature staying at minus 3.2 degree while Solan recorded a low of minus 0.5 degree. Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti and Kalpa in tribal kinnaur district recorded a low of minus 15.4 degree and minus 7.2 degree while high altitude tribal Areas continued to reel under arctic conditions with mercury staying between minus 16 and minus 26 degree C. However, the maximum day temperature rose marginally to stay at 22.4 degree at Una, followed by Sundernagar 20.8 degree, Solan 18.5 degree, Bhunter 18.1 degree, Nahan 17.2 degree, Dharmshala 15.8 degree and Shimla 13. 2 degree. Helicopter services to tribal areas remained disrupted and two serious patients could not be airlifted to Shimla for the third day today. The local people have urged the government to make arrangement for big helicopter to evacuate the ailing and stranded persons from the snowbound valley.
