Congress, NCP to fight Gujarat municipal polls separately
PTI | 11:09 PM,Sep 24,2010Ahmedabad, Sep 24 (PTI) The Congress and the NCP have decided to fight the upcoming civic polls in Gujarat separately after talks for an alliance between both the parties failed. "Talks that we were having with Congress for jointly fighting the elections of six municipal corporations have failed as they did not heed to our demand on seat sharing," NCP leader Jagdish Dafda said. Now NCP will field candidates in all the wards of the Ahmedabad and other municipal corporations which are going to polls, he added. The NCP and the Congress had forged an alliance and fought the last Assembly elections in the state together. Following the failure of negotiations on alliance, the municipal corporation polls will now witness a three-pronged fight between the BJP, Congress, and NCP. Besides the Ahmedabad municipal corporation, elections will be held in civic bodies in Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar on October 10.
