CPI-M needs to change 'from top to bottom', says party leader
PTI | 06:01 PM,Jan 26,2012Kolkata, Jan 26 (PTI) In a tacit admission that the CPI-M has moved away from the masses, Biman Bose, the party's politburo member and state secretary, today said it needed to transform itself from "top to bottom" to make it acceptable again in West Bengal. "The change should come from top to bottom ...from Biman Bose to other levels of the leadership to make the CPI-M acceptable to the people," Bose told a party conference in North 24-Parganas district. In a terse message to party cadres, he said there were partymen who were frustrated after the defeat of the Left Front in the last Assembly election. "It does not depend on whether we are in the government or not to do party work. We must bring change. We are prepared to fight against all odds," Bose exhorted. He accused the state government of 'failure' to ensure that farmers get proper price for their harvest and alleged that some farmers had committed suicide "out of depression". Bose also blamed the Mamata Banerjee government for "failure" to contain violence against CPI-M workers despite repeated requests.
