

Cricket betting gang busted in Gurgaon
PTI | 10:07 PM,Jul 27,2010Gurgaon, Jul 27 (PTI) Gurgaon police claimed to have busted a cricket-betting gang with the arrest of eight persons and recovered four laptops, 51 mobile phones and five revolvers from them. On a specific information, the police raided house number 116 in Mohyal Colony of Sector 40 last evening where the accused were found betting on the ongoing test match between India and Sri Lanka, Joint Commissioner of Police Alok Mittal said. One of the accused also fired on the police team when it raided the house. However, they were overpowered, Mittal said. The seized mobiles have the contact numbers of 72-73 persons who were frequently contacted by the accused, he said. The double storey house used by the accused is reportedly owned by Mahesh alias 'Attack' of Jharsa against whom as many as 15 criminal cases, under various sections, were registered in Gurgaon, he said. They were produced before a local court today which sent them to judicial remand of 14 days. The matter has been handed over to Assistant Commissioner of Police Sadar Krishan Murari for investigation.
