

Decision on free houses to mill workers soon, Maha govt �
PTI | 10:07 PM,Jul 27,2010Mumbai, Jul 27 (PTI) Maharashtra Government today said a decision on providing free houses constructed by MHADA to mill workers would be taken in the cabinet within a month. Replying to the debate on a calling attention notice in Legislative Assembly, Minister of�state for urban Development Bhaskar Jadhav said�there are 1.70 lakh mill workers who were rendered unemployed since 1982. "There are 10153 houses of 225 sq ft carpet area constructed on mill land," he said. Application forms will be distributed from August and allotment would be made on lottery system. Distribution of homes will be done on Diwali, the minister said. In another calling attention on urban credit societies, co-operation minister Harshvardhan Patil said there are 462 credit societies in which there are complaints regarding deposits of�Rs 1530 crore. He said a new legislation will be introduced during the winter session to curb irregularities by credit societies. Societies which are found guilty will barred from contesting elections, Patil said, adding that their property will also be confiscated. Audit systems will be put in place, the minister said. He said the draft legislation is ready and the final draft would be ready by November 30 after eliciting views and opinions from the public.
