

''Extensive use of fossil fuel causes global warming''
PTI | 06:08 PM,Aug 20,2011Kapurthala, Aug 20 (PTI) The extensive use of fossil fuel, besides resulting into emission of carbon dioxide, has become a major cause of global warming.These views were expressed by former member of National Security Advisory Board S K Sharma in a state level function of 'Rajiv Gandhi Akshy Urja Divas' held at Science city here today.In his speech, he said that the extensive use of fossil fuel has "catastrophic" implications in India and as well as in the whole world.He said the studies showed that agriculture production in the country would be affected and there would be drought in some areas of the country in the coming years because of global warming.Sharma disclosed that Centre had already launched a nation wide action plan on the climate change under which a solar mission was set up to generate 25,000 megawatt power from solar energy by 2020.He said renewable energy sources could help in reducing the global warming.
