

Five arrested in Thane for hacking to death a villager
PTI | 03:11 PM,Nov 06,2011Thane, Nov 6,(PTI) The Thane Rural police today arrested five villagers including three women on the charge of hacking to death a fifty year old villager over a fued at Padgha. Police said the victim Dadoo Pandurang Mhatre (50) was hacked to death by 14 persons, nine of whom were still at large. Police Sub Inspector L B Wagh, of the Padgha police station said that there was a long pending fued between Dadoo Mhatre and two other villagers over the issue of the water pipe line passing through the houses and their relations were strained. A couple of days back, the accused had made an attempt to dash against the victim following which the victim and his son went to the house of the accused to question him as to why did he resort to kill him. Annoyed over being questioned, the accused allegedly attacked the victim with a sword aided by several people. The victim sustained serious wounds and died on way to hospital, the police said. The incident that took place at Amne within the limits of the Bhiwandi taluka had created tension in the area but situation is now under control, police said. Police said that of the 14 accused, nine were still at large. They have been booked for murder with rioting. PTI COR
