

Four arrested for smuggling ketamine
PTI | 11:09 PM,Sep 20,2010Chennai, Sep 20 (PTI) Four persons, including a Customs officer were arrested by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence today for allegedly smuggling ketamine worth crores of rupees over a period of time. DRI officials said Customs officer Magutapathy (52) was involved in smuggling ketamine with three others - Mohammad Nazeer, Arulraj and Stephen Masilamani, based on some information received by the department. They were later remanded to judicial custidy. Ketamine, a veterinary anaesthetic which can cause hallucinations and is known to be a recreational drug, is often smuggled from Chennai to other Asian countries like Malaysia and Singapore among others through sea and air.
