Freedom Fighters to hold relay fast
PTI | 01:07 PM,Jul 28,2010Puducherry, July 28 (PTI) Freedom Fighters Welfare Movement in Puducherry has organised a relay fast here tomorrow to press their demands. Convenor of the movement D.Sivaraj said that the fast was aimed at urging the administration to declare November 1 the Independence Day of Puducherry as it was on November 1, 1954 Puducherry and other French establishments (Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam) became free and merged with Indian Union de facto. He said that the administration should declare August 16 Republic Day of Puducherry as it was on this day in 1962 did Puducherry and its outlying regions become free de jure bringing into force all Indian legislations here. These arrangements should be on par with Independence and Republic Days (August 15 and January 26) celebrated every year. Sivaraj said freedom fighters pension should be available to all the genuine freedom activists and statues of veteran freedom fighters should be installed at important centres in Puducherry.
