

Gangabal to be developed as eco-tourism destination: Minister
PTI | 05:09 PM,Sep 06,2011Srinagar, Sep 6 (PTI) The picturesque Gangabal on the Srinagar-Leh national highway will be developed as a major eco-tourism destination to attract foreign and domestic holiday-makers, Forest Minister Mian Altaf Ahmad said today. "Gangabal will be developed as a major eco-tourism destination which will attract tourists towards this picturesque place paving the way for generating economic activities in the area," he said. The Minister, who inaugurated a tourist guest house at the hill station on the foothills of Harmoukh mountain near Kangan, 40-km from here, said the government had initiated several measures for the promotion of tourism in the Valley, the mainstay of the economy of the state. He expressed satisfaction at the heavy influx of tourists into the Valley this year.Ahmad also asked forest officers to work with added zeal for conservation of the green gold and check forest smuggling effectively."Natural beauty of Kashmir is subservient to the forest conservation and preservation of varied greenery, lakes and springs," he said.
