PTI | 11:07 PM,Jul 28,2010Kochi, Jul 28 (PTI): The Kerala High Court today directed that status quo be maintained in the Mangrove park set up by CPI(M) controlled Eco Tourism society in Papinessery in Kannur on a PIL, seeking a direction to prevent construction there. The order in this regard was issued by a division bench, comprising Chief Justice J Chalameswar and Justice T N Ravindran on a PIL by Ansari of Kannur. The PIL had been admitted by the court in April last. The petitioner contended that Vallapatnam river area comes under Category 1 of Coastal Regulation Zone under CRZ notification of the ministry of Environment and Forest and construction and development of any kind is prohibited in the area. The Union Environment ministry has already ordered the park's closure for violation of CRZ norms.
