

HC directs UPSC not to announce empanelment for DGP post
PTI | 08:04 PM,Apr 28,2011Bangalore, Apr 28 (PTI) The Karnataka High Court today directed the UPSC not to announce the list of empanelment for the post of Director General of Police on a petition filed by City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari. The order was passed by a vacation bench comprising Justice Ravi Mallimath and Justice K N Keshavanarayana, when the petition filed by Bidari challenging the legality of a Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) order directing only a certain category of officers to be recommended by UPSC for empanelment for the post of DGP, came up before it. The court directed the UPSC not to announce the list of empanelment for the post of DGP and posted the matter to May 30 for futher hearing. The CAT, on an application filed by DG Home Guards and Fireforce D V Guruprasad, had passed an order on Apr 21 directing the state government to send a proposal of eligible officers of (particular categories) for the post of DGP. Questioning the order by which the category under which he (Bidari) comes, has been excluded, Bidari had filed a petition before the court two days ago.
