

HC issues notice to UPSC over quota for disabled in IAS
PTI | 07:11 PM,Nov 22,2011Mumbai, Nov 22 (PTI) The Bombay High Court today issued a notice to the Union Public Service Commission over a PIL which has sought three per cent quota for the disabled in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). Under the Persons With Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act of 1995, a three per cent quota is reserved for the disabled persons in government jobs. However, it is yet to be introduced in the highest echelons of the administration, namely the IAS, the petitioner, National Confederation for Development of Disabled, said in the Public Interest Litigation. Advocate Rajiv Chavan, representing the Union Government, said the selection for IAS fell under the purview of UPSC. The division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice Roshan Dalvi then issued a notice to UPSC. The court also asked the Union Government to state its stand on the issue.
