Indian model of development is last refuge: Joshi
PTI | 11:03 PM,Mar 29,2011Shimla, Mar 29 (PTI) Former union minister and Chairman of Public Accounts Committee(PAC) Murli Manohar Joshi today called for reverting to the time tested "Indian model of development" to avoid global crisis. "All the problems like climate change, shrinking resources, social tensions, disparities and terrorism were result of Western model of development which was partial and not holistic," Joshi said. He was Inaugurating two day seminar of "relevance of philosophy of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya" organised by Deen Dayal Chair at Himachal University. "Every country or individual must limit its consumption so that the basic necessities were available to all, especially to the poorest among the poor," he said adding that the prevalent model of development, driven by market forces had only increased disparities. Dr Joshi said that the "integrated humanism" of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya was most relevant today as it was based on holistic approach covering the man, the earth, planets, space and environment and said that India was able to face "global meltdown" because of inherent strength derived from all practices. He called for strengthening the "family system" and cautioned that the day family system collapsed as in the West, India would not be able to survive.
