

Jail inmate suffer burn injuries
PTI | 09:02 PM,Feb 11,2012Amritsar, Feb 11 (PTI) An inmate of the Central Jail here today suffered burn injuries when flames erupted in his barrack. The inmate Kulwant Singh, a dreaded terrorist, was admitted in the Government Guru Nanak Dev Hospital with more than fifty percent burn injures and his condition was described critical. In his statement to police, Singh said when food was being cooked all of sudden flames hit the electric wiring, leading to severe short circuit, after which his clothes caught fire. Jail Superintendent Rashpal Singh said the matter would be inquired into thoroughly as to how the fire caught him but circumstantial evidences indicated that Kulwant Singh had committed suicide and the concerned police station has been asked by the jail authority to book him in a case of attempt to commit suicide. Kulwant Singh was arrested by the Special Operation Cell of Punjab Police in July 2010 with 2 Ak47 guns, one automatic Machine Gun and 15 kg of RDX which were smuggled from Pakistan to create disturbance during the SGPC elections held in 2011. None of the jail inmates who were lodged with Kulwant Singh was ready ready to say anything about the incident, said Rashpal Singh.
