PTI | 05:09 PM,Sep 02,2010Rameswaram (TN), Sept 2 (PTI) A group of fishermen from this island were relieved of their fish catch and mobile phones allegedly by Sri Lankan Naval personnel when they were fishing near Katchatheevu. The affected fishermen numbering around 20 told reporters here that when they were fishing near Katchatheevu, an islet ceded to Sri Lanka by India, the Lankan Navalmen entered their five boats and took away their fish catch and mobile phones. Tension prevailed among the fishermen community here as the fishermen, who had put out to sea yesterday, returned to the shores empty handed this morning. As per the agreement between Sri Lanka and India, fishermen from Tamil Nadu can visit Katchatheevu for drying their nets and rest but can't fish there. Recently the Centre had rejected demands for retrieving Katchatheevu and said they can protect the fishermen as long as they did not cross into Lankan waters.
