Mamata condemns Bengal bandh
PTI | 11:09 PM,Sep 07,2010New Delhi, Sep 8 (PTI) As the trade union strike crippled normal life in West Bengal today, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that the CPI(M) had taken the state to the path of ruins by resorting to repeated bandhs. "For the last 30 years, CPI(M) has ruined the state with the use of guns and repeated bandhs," Banerjee told reporters here. Left trade unions and INTUC had called the 24-hour industrial strike against price rise and other issues. It took the form of a general strike in the state with the Left parties supporting the trade unions. Opposing the bandh, the Trinamool Congress chief said the state government can control price rise by reducing the cess on petroleum products. Shops, bazaars and other commercial establishments and educational institutions were closed due to the bandh.
