Mayawati asks officials to take up relief work on war-footing

Lucknow, Aug 28 (PTI) With a number of districts facing flood fury in the state, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today directed the officials to carry out relief and rescue works on a war-footing. Necessary arrangements in flood hit districts should be made so that affected people could reach relief camps at the earliest and relief materials and medical facilities should be provided to them, Mayawati said during a high-level meeting to review the situation. The CM said that the state government has released Rs 10 crore for flood relief so far and all districts had got the required amount. Rs two crore had been given for repair of damaged roads and culverts. Besides, an amount of Rs 2.5 crore had been made available to the PAC for making arrangements of 33 new rubberised boats, motor-boats and other necessary life saving equipment, she said. She has also directed the officers to make special security arrangements in flood-affected areas adding that there was no lack of money for flood relief operations. Mayawati said on her directives senior Cabinet Minister Nasimuddin Siddiqui had reviewed the relief operation in flood affected districts of Bijnor, Kanshiram Nagar, Ballia, Gonda and Bahraich. She had directed the senior government officers for regular monitoring of relief and rescue works in flood-hit areas, besides making necessary arrangements. She directed that repair work of Charsari embankment damaged in Parsawal village situated on the border of Barabanki-Gonda district should be done on war-footing. The CM directed the irrigation minister to gauge the situation arising out of damaged embankment by immediate aerial survey.
