PTI | 04:06 PM,Jun 22,2011Kannauj(UP), Jun 22 (PTI) Citing recent incidents of crimes against women in Uttar Pradesh, Chairman of National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), P L Punia has demanded resignation of Chief Minister Mayawati on "moral grounds". "The Chief Minister should take the moral responsibility of the rise in graph of rape and atrocities on women and resign," Punia who was here to meet family of a rape victim said yesterday. Punia, a former bureaucrat and a close associate of Mayawati during her previous term, also took exception to a statement issued by the state chief secretary, Anup Misra and said that he should have given a serious thought to it before speaking on it. Misra had termed the recent rape incidents as 'stray incidents' in media. "Almost 90 per cent of the rape victims in the recent incidents are dalits," he said adding that MLAs and ministers are themselves involved in crime and corruption.PTI Corr SAB PG
