PTI | 11:07 PM,Jul 23,2011Ahmedabad/Anand, Jul 23 (PTI) Milk prices in Kheda and Anand district of Gujarat will go up by Re 1 to 2 per litre from Monday, while a decision to hike the prices in other parts of the state would be taken tomorrow by GCMMF."The prices of our milk brands like Amul Gold, Shakti, and Tea special will increase by Rs 2 per litre from Monday, in Kheda and Anand district of Gujarat, while Slim and Trim will be costlier by Re 1 per litre there," GCMMF Managing Director R S Sodhi told newsmen."We will decide on the hike in milk prices in other parts of the state tomorrow," Sodhi said. With a network of 13 district cooperative unions, engaging 29 lakh dairy farmers spanning 12,000 villages of Gujarat, GCMMF has recently crossed USD 2 billion turnover. Each district cooperative union has the freedom to announce hike in milk prices as and when deemed fit. This would be third hike by the federation in the last six months. Last, it had hiked milk prices of various brands in April by Re 1 to 2 per litre. The federation has attributed the hike in milk prices to higher payouts to dairy farmers and rising input costs."We are paying Rs 435 per kilo of fat to the dairy farmers, which is atleast 20 per cent higher than payouts of last year," Sodhi said.According to provisional estimates, the average milk procurement this year was nearly 96 lakh kgs per day, up from 93 lakh Kgs per day in the year-ago period.
