NCP urges JK government, FCI for procurement of paddy
PTI | 03:10 PM,Oct 06,2010Jammu, Oct 6 (PTI) Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) today demanded the immediate procurement of paddy and products from farmers to avoid "distress sale" by the farmers in Jammu and Kashmir. "We urged the State government and Food Corporation of India (FCI) to immediately start procurement of paddy from farmers in Jammu region to avoid distress sale by the farmers", NCP's State Chief Thakur Randhir Singh told reporters here. Singh expressed concern over the failure of procurement by FCI and State agencies as a result of which the farmers were forced to sell paddy crop to the private millers at throw away prices due to economic problems. He said that their seems to be a nexus between FCI and State agencies and private millers, otherwise what could be reason for not procuring the paddy for production of high quality paddy.
