He said opinions of geological and seismological experts like J R Kayal, former Deputy Director General, Geological Survey of India, and B K Rastogi, Director General, Institute of Seismological Research (ISR), were also taken while arriving at the design-basis. "The information from above studies and the process of providing design margins has also been discussed with V K Gaur (one of the authors)," the statement said. NPCIL has plans to develop a nuclear island at Jaitapur to generate 9900 MWe electricity by building six atomic power plants of 1650 MW capacity each sourced from French company Areva.
