NRI gets support from Gujarat CM for charity work in Kutch
PTI | 06:07 PM,Jul 06,2010Rajkot, Jul 6 (PTI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has extended support to a Non Resident Indian (NRI) who runs a school in Kutch to provide free education to the girls but was challenged by some local people from the town. Shiraj Andani, a native of Kutch and settled in England, started a school to provide free education to girls at Vandhiya after the devastating earth quake that rocked the region in 2001. Andnai visited the region after the quake and decided to start a school for girls from Standard VIII to XII and set up Andani Foundation Trust to provide free education as also to provide books, uniform and transportation free of cost to the girl students in the region. However, some local elements at the Vandhiya village for reasons not known, sometime back lodged complaints against the NRI with charity commissioner and the police to keep him away from the charity work. Andani then wrote a letter to Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and informed him about the problems created by a section of the local people in his charity work. Modi took personal interest and invited Andani at his Gandhinagar office recently and assured him to extend all possible support to continue his work in the region, a release issued by the Andani Foundation Trust said. The chief minister also praised Andani's work and urged him to convince other NRIs to carry similar work in Gujarat, the release added.
