

Orissa alerts districts against swine flu
PTI | 06:08 PM,Aug 12,2010Bhubaneswar, Aug 12 (PTI) With swine flu killing seven persons in Orissa within a span of 11 days this month and the H1N1 virus spreading beyond Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the state government today instructed all district collectors to restrict gatherings. "We have asked district collectors to keep a watch on the swine flu situation and restrict gatherings," Health and Family Welfare minister Prasanna Acharya told reporters here. While six of the deaths occurred in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, one took place in Baragarh district. "The health department has decided to keep hospitals ready at the district level to deal with swine flu patients," the minister said. He said there was stock of about three lakh tamiflu tablets and adequate vaccine for service providers at health centres and private hospitals. The treatment for the viral infection was being carried out according to the central government's guidelines, he said. Of the 52 swab sample tests conducted so far, 20 tested positive for swine flu of whom seven persons died. Seven others were discharged from hospital, while six were admitted to various hospitals.
