Railways signs MoU with Jharkhand for rail expansion project
PTI | 08:02 PM,Feb 14,2012New Delhi, Feb 14 (PTI) Railways today signed an MoU with Jharkhand for construction of 566-km-long rail line in the state on a cost sharing basis with an estimated cost of Rs 3771 crore. The state government will share 50 per cent cost of the project as per the MoU. "This is a win-win situation for both railways and Jharkhand as the work is expected to be expedited on the new line projects in the state," Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi said after the MoU signing ceremony here. He said the connectivity is very crucial for development and 50:50 cost sharing pattern for taking up rail expansion project is a good step. "This pattern needs to be encouraged and I would ask other states to come with such proposals." Railways is executing six projects (five new line and one gauge conversion project) on cost sharing basis with the Jharkhand as per the MoU. "Our efforts will be to speed up the execution of the projects for its timely completion," Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda said. Senior Jharkhand officials and Railway Board officials, including Chairman Railway Board Vinay Mittal and Chief Secretary of Jharkhand S K Choudhary, were present on the occasion. There are 31 railway projects which are being executed on cost sharing basis in various states like Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Rajasthan.
