PTI | 09:08 PM,Aug 31,2010

New Delhi, Aug 31 (PTI) Retail price inflation on items consumed by industrial workers eased to 11.25 per cent in July, down by over 2 percentage points compared to the previous month. "The point-to-point rate of (retail) inflation (for industrial workers) for the month of July is 11.25 per cent as compared to 13.73 per cent in June, 2010," a Ministry of Labour and Employment statement said here. The all-India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) for the month of July, 2010, increased by 4 points and stood at 178, it further said. The CPI-IW is used for calculating dearness allowance (DA) for government employees, as well as other workers. India's wholesale prices-based inflation stood at 9.97 per cent for the month of July this year, compared to 10.55 per cent in June. Unlike earlier months, there is now not a wide difference between wholesale price inflation and retail price inflation. This shows that food prices are now moderating, since these items have greater weightage in the retail price index. During July, the CPI-IW recorded an increase of 11 points each at the Bhavnagar and Giridih centres due an increase in the prices of rice, groundnut oil, milk, vegetables and fruits, the statement said. The increase of 10 points each at the Ranchi Hatia, Chandigarh and Amritsar centres was on account of an increase in the prices of items, kerosene oil, cooking gas, rice, wheat flour, onion, vegetables and fruits, it said. However, the statement said a decrease of 2 points at the Coimbatore and Warrangal centres was due to a reduction in the prices of rice and vegetables. Furthermore, there was decrease a single-point decrease at the Salem centre on account of a decline in rice and vegetable prices.
