

Solvay to open research centre in Guj
PTI | 11:09 PM,Sep 29,2010Vadodara, Sep 29 (PTI) Brussels based Solvay group today announced to open a research, development and technology centre in Savli, about 30 km from here. "The centre will focus on high performance polymers, organic chemistry, nano composite, biotechnology and green chemistry and will also host high level competences in the field of science, technology patent, regulation and procurement," Solvay group's region general manager, Asia Pacific, Roger Kearns said on the ground breaking ceremony of the centre to be worth Rs 45 crore. "Our new RD&T centre is Solvay's commitment to the Indian market and Indian customers and makes us a genuine Indian citizen, socially embedded in India," he said. The proposed centre would be company's global centre, he added. The centre is in close proximity to Solvay's manufacturing site at Panoli in neighbouring Bharuch District about 110 km away from here. Managing Director of Solvay Specialities India Pvt Limited, R Prakash told PTI that company was setting up a Rs 45 crore water treatment plant after Union Minister for Environment, Jairam Ramesh during his recent visit to industrial areas in Paoli, Ankleshwar and Vapi here, raised concerns about impact of discharged polluted water on environment.
