

Statues of two Congress leaders desecrated in Tenali
PTI | 10:01 PM,Jan 28,2012Guntur (AP), Jan 28 (PTI) Close on the heels of desecration of the statues of Dalit icon Babasaheb Ambedkar, figures of two Congress leaders were today found to be defiled in Tenali town in the district, police said. Statues of Congress leaders N G Ranga and Vangaveeti Ranga were found damaged, they said. In a bid to prevent any untoward incident, police reinstalled the image of Vangaveeti Ranga even as people gathered near the spot of the incident and raised slogans in protest. Vangaveeti Ranga's son Radhakrishna, who is former MLA from Vjjayawada rushed to Tenali and appealed for observing restraint. In the wake of the incident, Deputy Collector has clamped prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC and security has been enhanced even as people from neighbouring villages briefly obstructed traffic and raised slogans.
