Regenerative medicine was a recently evolved innovative therapy that enables the body to repair, replace, restore and regenerate healthy cells using stem cell-based therapy. The procedure of collection of stem cells, contrast radiography, surgical procedures and engraftment were performed under the guidance of TANUVAS Vice-Chancellor Dr P Thangaraju and by a team of surgeons from the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Madras Veterinary College, and Scientists from NCRM, he said. "We have plans to conduct basic research and clinical trials for evolving protocols for various degenerative diseases that can also be translated and to establish umbilical cord blood bank for dogs and horses as it is more appropriate considering the life span of the animals," Iyappan added.
