PTI | 08:12 PM,Dec 25,2011

Sirsi, Dec 25 (PTI) Mumbai-based Tata Institute would conduct a survey on radiation levels in villages surrounding Kaiga Nuclear Plant in Karnataka and treatment would be provided to anyone found affected, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda today said. "Tata Institute will conduct survey on radiation levels in villages surrounding Kaiga plant and provide treatment to those affected by it," he told reporters here. He said the Kaiga Nuclear Power Project had entered into an agreement with the Manipal University for conducting an epidemiological survey of the staff and workers at the plant. The last survey was conducted in 1997-98. The Kaiga project has four power generation units each with a capacity of 220 MWe. An epidemiology is the study of health-events, health-characteristics or health-determinant patterns in a population, which becomes the cornerstone method of public health research, and helps identifying risk factors for disease and targets for preventive medicine.
