The Dalai Lama leaves for two week visit of New Zealand, Aus

Dharamsala, Jun 6 (PTI) In his first foreign visit after relinquishing the role of political and administrative head of exiled Tibetan administration, Tibetan spiritual head the Dalai Lama has left Dharamsala for a two week visit to New Zealand and Australia. In the first leg of the visit which began yesterday, the Dalai Lama would land at Christchurch, which was rocked by a severe earthquake of 6.4 magnitude, which left 181 people dead on February 22 last and will participate in the memorial service for earthquake victims.In the second leg, the Dalai Lama will go to Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. Anglican Church Bishop victoria Matthewas from the Christchurch Cathedral will accompany the Dalai Lama at the prayer service on June 8 and he would also give a public talk on the same day, a spokesman of exiled Tibetan Administration said.In all these cities, the Dalai Lama will give public talks, open new Vietnamese Buddhist Centre, give extensive interviews to the Australian media, meet the Tibetan and Mongolian Buddhist communities and give teachings on the Bodhisativa's Way of Life' by Shantideva.In Canberra, the Dalai Lama will meet the Australian Parliamentary Group for Tibet. His Holiness will also be hosted a reception by the Australian Paramilitary Group for Tibet in the presence of the members of parliament, senators and the diplomats based in Canberra.In Brisbane, he will participate in an event titled "A conversation with the Dalai Lama-Values in Leadership, Environmental Thinking and the Action Required" which would be followed by another discussion on "A conversation with the Dalai Lama on Happiness Life and Living- Finding Happiness on Life's journey and Overcoming Loss".
